i would be glad if somebody like obcvoice tried to convince the people that reservations are effective at school level so as to give benefit to more people from backward backgrounds. But i guess obcvoice belongs to the creamy layer thinktank who will reap the benefits whereas millions other in the villages and the slums wont even know what is reservation all about.

I request you to please remove the offensive comments put up by anonymous; they're getting in the way of some genuine argument.(keep one for the record if you really need to).
CNN-IBN seems to be trying to keep a bit of a balance in this issue by showing dalit plight in the villages and so on.
As regards the non-coverage of the TN pro-reservation rally, it seems as if any rally that does not have any masala is not covered. There was a rally organized in Azad Maidan, Mumbai yesterday which was anti-reservationist. There was not even a single report on it on any news channel. The reason I guess was that the rally was extremely peaceful and organized and nothing untoward happened.
And as for "kicking anti-reservationist butt", I think the main reason why this entire agitation is getting uglier and uglier by the day is because everyone involved (even the net savvy "educated" ones) are talking like juveniles. This goes double for the guy who posted offensive comments multiple times on this entry.
Finally, read Rajeev Srinivasan's article on rediff on "How reservations fracture Hindu society". Also, if you have access to the Sunday Times of India, read an article titled "Do I have any Merit?" on page 12 by Mr Swaminath S Anklesaria Aiyar. I have written about the latter on my blog.

A huge demonstration and Dharna was organised today at Jammu in favour of reservation.
People of SC/ST as well as OBC communities participated in huge number in this dharna whih was organised by BSP.
The people participating in the Dharna demanded immediate implementation of the Mandal Commission report.
They criticised the J&K government for discriminating with the backward communities in the state.
Here, it must be stated that the Mandal Commission report has not been implemented in Jammu and Kashmir at all.
Around 2000 people who participated in the dharna asked the government to revoke SRO 294,which has been enated to deny the genuine rights of Bahujan samaj of J&K.

Dear friends,
A district-level meeting of Brahmin Samaj was held at Balaghat on 15th August. The meeting was presided over by Mr. Trivedi, an ideal saint of Jabalpur. The following resolutions were passed in the meeting.
Shudra communities means Backward Class like Pawar, Marar, Lodhi, Kasar etc. should be kept involved in the religious affairs so that their attention be kept away from political rights and they always remain slaves and supporters of Brahminism.
The political consciousness that has developed among the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Class and Religious Minorities has threatened the leadership of Brahminism. Hence, such a confusion and conflict be created in them, that they keep on fighting among themselves.
We must go to the people of fourth Varna, Shudras and tell them that the constitution is against Hindus and it must be changed. This awakening must be created and spread in the masses.
Everybody in Brahmin Caste, of any political party like Congress, BJP, Communist and any organisation, social-religious, must gather under one banner to save Brahminism, because the leadership of Brahminism is in danger.
Wrong confusion must be spread among Pawars, Marars, Lodhis (backward classes), Scheduled Castes/tribes and religious minorities (Muslims/Christians/Buddhists) due to which they must fight and kill each other.
Because of the politics of Bahujan Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) and consciousness of Dalits, the leadership of Brahminism is threatened. To oppose this, we must tell the people that this is the party of Mahars and Chamars only, so that other smaller castes do not join.
The employees of Scheduled Castes/Tribes, backward class and muslims have developed fat in their bodies. Hence they should be physically and mentally tortured and they must be humiliated by paper actions and their work must be carried out by the Brahmin Officers who are occupying high posts, in a secret manner.
The Officers of Brahmin community, who are holding higher posts should spread confusion among the unemployed youths of low castes that only Scheduled Castes and Tribes people are taking advantage of reservation, and posts meant for you are being given to them only, so that they keep on fighting among themselves.
If Brahmin community does not come on one platform to protect themselves and protect brahminism, this will be the matter of great shame and death for them and they will become the slaves of untouchable castes. Therefore to keep them slaves, we must adopt every tactics to protect Brahmins and to retain leadership of the country.
The backward classes should be kept in forefront, by giving the slogan of Jai-Shriram to use them as shield (source) to protect Brahmins and they should be kept confused by religious acts like Gayatri Yagya, Brahmakumari Institution, Satya Sai of Shirdi and the Buddhists should be confused by Shiva-Patra.
If Ambedkarism grows in the country, Gandhism means Brahminism will be finished. Nobody will be there to take the name of Dr. Hegdewar, Golwalkar Guruji, the great men of R.S.S. Hence we must infiltrate in their every organisation and get information secretly, to defeat their every plan.
If the Brahminism is to be kept alive, then we must raise religious emotions and sentiments among the youths of backward classes, to keep them confused and create communal conflicts/riots with the youths of Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes, so that the children of Brahmins retain their domination, in the Government administration and politics.

On behalf of the OBC and SC/ST community of Jammu and Kashmir, I thank your organisation for doing yeoman service for the cause of depressed classes. The manner in which your website has putforth forceful articles in support of the reservations as well as for the amelioration of the Shudras of this country, you deserve special applause.
The articles which point towards the bias of the media are particulalrly relevant in the present scenario, in light of the disproportionate hold the upper caste media has come to hold in our society, economy and polity.
India being a a media starved country for the last thousands of years is lapping up whatever poor quality stuff is being dished out by the so called fourth estate.
Being a journalist and beloning to backward community, i have experienced so much inbuilt and inherent casteism, that it is almost impossible to counter them.
The people of South India and even India have been fortunate that they are getting the benefit of MAndal Commission, but here in Jammu and Kashmir the upper caste Hindus and Muslims together have denied OBCs the right of reservations, since it's inception.
Instead of giving the benefit to the real beneficiaries, the government has created an artificial category called RBA (Resident of Backward Areas), whereby every one particilarly the upper castes are enjoying the fruits of MAndal Commission.
Recently the Government of Jammu and Kashmir passed SRO-294, which stipulates that OBCs which are given just 2 percent reservations, shall be given certificates only on the basis of occupation but not on caste basis.
It is clearly a conspiracy to ensure that the backward community of J&K is deprived the benefits of the MAndal Commission report even at the centre.
The backward community in Jammu Kashmir is numerically strong but geographically differentiated and economically and socially very weak.
As such these people have not been able to get their due share in the polity and economy of the state and the nation.
On our part, we are trying to take the lead from this ongoing agitation and trying to consolidate the OBCs under one banner.
We are planning to launch a fortnightly for the OBC community and perhaps a directory of community will also be published in near future.
I request you people to guide us and help us in this struggle.

thinking that gov with go ahead with the reservation and we will get
admission. But that not the truth.
Gov is ONLY applying the reservation to NON-Minority Run Collages.
What does that mean ?
It means if the Collage/University is run by minority (aka by
Christians, Muslims) then they are not going to implement
reservation.

So, why not in minority Universities?
Because Congress government don't want to lose there all time
Muslims and Christians vote, which are 11% and 3% = 14% of

So, what does that means?

one solution to this dominance by the upper castes would be to promote awareness among educated in the lower castes of the need to take up journalism as a career. Perhaps, only in the long term would we see some balanced reporting.

New Delhi, May 30 (UNI) Senior journalists, academicians and a senior doctor
from AIIMS have described the media coverage of the anti-reservation stir as
"one-sided and biased" with well-known psephologist Yogendra Yadav announcing
that his oganisation would survey the background of all mediapersons and judges
within two years and put their profiles on the website.
Participating in a seminar on "How Media Covered Reservation Stir" organised
by "Journalists for Democracy, Delhi" here on Saturday, Mr Yadav said the media
went off the mark in reporting the agitation but added that proponents of
reservation should also reconsider to what extent the caste-based OBC
reservation was an affirmative action in the Indian society. "Since the Mandal
Commission implementation in 1990s, things have undergone a sea change with
economic issues coming to the fore", he said.
Referring to his organisation - Centre for Study of Development Socieites
(CSDS) - plan to prepare a profile of working journalists and judges, Mr Yadav
said such an exercise had already been undertaken in the US and it was necessary
to know the conduct and performance of the persons concerned and their expected
contribution to the development of the society.
Dr Anoop Saraya, a Professor from AIIMS said the same venue - the park of the
premier hospital where employees and doctors were debarred by a court order from
staging a protest which is their legal right - now had been thrown open to the
anti-reservationists.
''These protesters have rather been facilitated by the hospital management and
egged upon by industrialists and a section of political class to raise their
bogey of protest with the print and electronic media hovering all around to
highlight them." On the other hand, the media had deliberately ignored the
pro-reservationists in the AIIMS from projecting their point of view, Dr Saraya
said adding that the media bias was more pronounced this time than that
witnessed during the anti-Mandal agitation during 1990s.
Well-known columnist Anil Chamdria supported Mr Yadav's views that a section
of electronic media deliberately projected the National Health and Family Survey
that the percentage of OBC population was only 29 per cent excluding OBC from
the Muslim community and not 52 per cent as given out by the Mandal Commission.
Mr Chamdria agreed with Mr Yadav's assertion that the Health and Family survey
had a limited purpose and could not be correct.
However, Mr Yadav maintained that the Mandal's figure of the OBC population
was disputed and according to his assessment, it could be around 42 per cent.
Most of the senior journalists including Mr G Chandrasekar from UNI, Mr Shambu
Nath Singh from Jagran and Mr Urmalesh from Hindi Hindustan argued that the
media 'sustained and projected the anti-reservation stir out of proportion and
completely blacked out the views and protests of the pro-reservation people who
constitute at least 80 per cent of the country's population.
Most of the speakers, including Mr S S Bechain, Professor of Journalism in a
Delhi University College and Mr Sidharath Verdhrajan, Delhi-based editor of 'The
Hindu,' said most of the working journalists covering the anti-reservation stir
"were ignorant about the recent 104th Constitutional Amendment in favour of 27
per cent reservation for OBC and which had been supported by all political
parties including the BJP".
Veteran journalist Masat Ram Kapoor said, ''the Indian media is dominated by
the upper caste people and none of the Dalits so far have become editor in any
mainstream media including the vernacular press....and the ongoing doctors'
agitation reflected the pride and self-centredness of the moneyed class with
middle calss trappings which does not want to lose any of its privileges."
However, Mr Parshotam Aggrawal, a professor from JNU wondered how media could
go to the extent of ignoring version of the other side while reporting an
incident.
The participants viewed that with economic liberalisation and with private
trade owning the electronic media, news was being projected as a 'saleable
commodity' meant to generate maximum advertisement revenue for the
establishment. "And, the reporters on the spot have ceased to exist in the game
of business and enhancing TRP rating," they added.

And there seems to be some confusion in terms of having equal rights and having a casteless society.
The issue is about unequality and discrimination in regards to the socio-economic status.
And marriage, is one institution which much more complex than the'reservation' issue. It's a matter of individual choice and no where in the WORLD there is any principle/moral that holds any higher than that.
However, talking about intercastes marriages, frankly they are not unheard of( I can give you genuine examples with valid data to support it).
Path to a 'perfect world' where everybody is equal and treated justly, lies not in homogenity but in tolerance. Otherwise, it would be a world of clones and not humans.
