Kanshi Ram ( 1934-2006)

'On 25th November 1949, the Poona Pact was 17 years old. At that time, the impact of the Poona Pact was not fully realised by our people. even though it was known to us that to get Baba Saheb elected to the Constituent Assembly, he had to be taken to Jesore and Khuina of Bengal. That was the main reason of his Hope that his People will Revolt against the unequal Brahminical Social Order. Later events showed that Spirit of Revolt was killed by the Poona Pact, and we have entered a New Age. Today, we know it well, as the Chamcha Age.'
- Kanshi Ram, the rebel who fought to overthrow the Chamcha Age. The visionary who breathed new life into the term Bahujan.

One of the great men of our times, who did work comparable to ambedkar and martin luthar king has passed away, but his ideas and his political message and sagacity will always guide us to freedom from brahminical oppression and cruelty. Long live Kanshi Ram, Long live revolution.

What do we have here? Upper castes "worrying" about the well-being of poor dalits???

That's like the fox worrying about the well-being of the chicken coop...

We do live in interesting times.

interesting but a very cryptic link. Could have been a bit more elaborate. What happened at Jesore and Khunia?

On the other side, BSP has often joined hands with BJP. Wonder what Kanshi Ram would call that.

"The DMK, PMK, MDMK, where are they all? At the feet of BJP."

I guess Dravidian parties have always maintained their self-respect better than their northern counterparts. Be it Anti-Hindi agitiation, 69% reservations or armtwisting the IPKF at Sri Lanka, they always had their way irrespective of what New Delhi thought.

This is anonymous is a strange fellow. And the Supreme Court has started playing the upper caste canard. Basically the judges are angry with Govt and want to show their power.

cosmic voices,

kanshi ram wasn't much a writer, he was more of a doer. an organizer. but his ideas were clear..and farsighted. he worked for dailt-bahujan unity..and had done more to forge it than any other politician after independence. his achievements are a mixed bag- and i agree with you that things didn't work out exactly as he planned in the north.

as for the dravidian parties, i'm not sure what they are working for any more..

mineguruji,

i agree with you that the supreme court is asking the wrong questions - what it should be asking instead is :why has the govt been financing institutions such as the iits/iims for so long..with less than 5% (in many cases)representation of the backward classes.

mineguruji,

in other words - how does the govt justify the existence of casteist institutions such as the iits/iims?
